BoardFlight

Keep games up to date

With BoardFlight on your computer, a newer version is one press, or none.

See what has a newer version

BoardFlight on your computer reads what is on your Board and tells your account. So the library (in BoardFlight, or in any browser you are signed in to) shows where each game stands on your Board: Not installed, Up to date or Update available.

It shows what BoardFlight last read from your Board, so it can be a little behind. For a game BoardFlight did not put on your Board itself, it may not know which version it is. It then shows Installed, and Reinstall puts the newest version on.

Update one game, or all of them

Press Update on a game. On My Games, Update all does it for every game on that Board with a newer version.

From a browser that is not BoardFlight on your computer (your phone, say), an update is a request like any install, and runs while BoardFlight is open. Install from your phone

Automatic updates

Update games automatically is on for every Board, so BoardFlight on your computer puts newer versions on it by itself, while it is running. It looks about once a minute. To stop it for a Board, switch it off on My Boards.

It treats two kinds of game differently, because a Board does.

  • A web game is updated straight away. Whoever is playing is not interrupted: the new version loads the next time the game starts.
  • An APK game (a Unity game, for one) is closed by an update if somebody is playing it. So BoardFlight updates those only between 3 and 6 in the morning, by your computer’s clock, and only if it is running then.

Automatic updates only ever update a game that is already on the Board. They never install one for the first time.

The game may tell you too

Some games say so themselves. Where a game’s creator has the update card switched on, the game shows Update available when a newer version is out. The card names the version and carries a code to scan with a phone, which opens the game’s page on boardflight.app.
